Student Chefs Prepare Pheasant Chasseur and Other Delights

MacFarlane Pheasants, Inc sent five employees on December 4, 2018, to attend the Blackhawk Technical School presentation of Pheasant Chasseur and other delightful foods at “The Armory” in Janesville, Wi. Celebrating Blackhawk Technical College Culinary Program and Chef Joe Wollinger

Chef Joe, is the title students in the Blackhawk Technical College Culinary Program (BTC) have given to the instructor who prepares them to be line cooks, prep cooks, and executive chefs. Chef Joe Wollinger has been a culinary arts instructor at Blackhawk Tech for 30 years and during those years, in addition to teaching culinary arts skills, he has offered students experiences that are unique to his specific skills and interests. In addition to teaching culinary arts, Chef Joe owns and operates an organic farm and has a special interest in teaching students to prepare organic foods. MacFarlane Pheasants Inc. produces approximately 1.8 million chicks each year. Nearly 500,000 of those chicks are raised to maturity and bought by clubs, governmental agencies and individuals. They are enjoyed for sport and their tasty meat! The rest of the chicks are sold as chicks or started birds. What some of you may not know is that we raise and sell three different types of partridges, also. Let’s take a look at all of these beautiful birds. April Goble’s interview was a delightful look into the life and thoughts of the woman who is the Chick Sales Coordinator at MacFarlane Pheasants. Remember her name because if life goes the way she expects, she will still be here in 30 years. Time To Think About Started Birds For 2019!

MacFarlane Pheasants ships out about 22,000 “started birds” each year. Started birds are our 6-week old pheasants that can be put directly into outdoor pens when they ar-rive. They are perfect for the person who wants to grow pheasants but does not have the barn setup or time to raise chicks. Stephan Schutte Describes His Life in South Africa and Janesville, WI

Stephan arrived in Janesville, Wisconsin from his home in Schoemanskloof, South Africa on March 15, 2018. Like all of the workers who came here from South Africa, he went through a complex process with a company in South Africa that places workers in a United States work environment. MacFarlane Pheasants, Inc. was one of the employers that signed up with that company to accept workers who were vetted and could obtain a work visa. This is MacFarlane’s second year in the program.
