MacFarlane Pheasants is Using 4-Wheelers for Farm Upkeep

Gator ATV
In the past Gators were used by Farm Management for:
- Hauling feeders in and out of pens.
- Hauling plassons (bell waterers).
- Pulling sprayers for flight pen cover.
- Transportation between pens for bird checks.
Upkeep on the gators was proving to be too costly. Parts were hard to find and expensive. When gator engines quit we couldn’t buy replacement engines, and used gators were being sold for 8-$10,000. After careful consideration, we decided that the price was not cost-effective for our purposes.
So, we modified our processes and concluded that an All-Terrain 4-wheel vehicle was more practical and cost-effective. We were able to find quality used 4-wheelers for $1500!
- All equipment needed for pen setup is hauled by a pickup truck and a trailer.
- The 4-wheeler can be used for spraying cover in pens and around pens.
- The ATVs have a tighter turn radius compared to the gator.
- Parts for the ATVs are more accessible than the parts for the gators.
We are pleased with our 4-wheelers and are using them to get our pens in shape!
