Maintenance Shop Expansion Underway at MacFarlane Pheasants
Exciting improvements are happening around the farm as we officially begin remodeling and expanding our maintenance shop in Janesville.
This project has been something we’ve talked about for quite some time, and we’re excited to finally see it moving forward. The expansion will double the size of our current shop by essentially duplicating the existing footprint directly beside the current building. The two sections will then be connected to create one larger, more functional workspace for our team.
Why We’re Expanding
Our current maintenance shop has served us well, but it was never designed to accommodate some of the larger equipment we rely on today. At the moment, our mechanics are unable to pull full semis with trailers, larger tractors, and some trucks indoors for repairs and maintenance.
That means many larger projects have to be completed outside, which can be especially difficult during Wisconsin winters, rainy weather, and extreme temperatures. Anyone who has worked outdoors during a Wisconsin winter knows how challenging that can be.
With this new layout, we’ll finally have the ability to bring all of our major equipment indoors when needed. This will create a safer, more efficient workspace for our mechanics and help us keep equipment maintained and operating year-round.
Work Started a Few Weeks Ago
We officially kicked off the project a few weeks ago by removing the old asphalt outside the current shop area. Since then, crews have been working on preparing the site by adding sand and rock to level the ground where the expansion will be built.
Right now, we’re waiting for the Town of Rock to finalize our building permits. We don’t anticipate any issues, but the town is currently backed up handling issues related to recent flood damage throughout the area.
We’re hopeful the permits will be finalized within the next couple of weeks, so construction can officially begin.
Working With a Trusted Team
DL Building, the same team that completed our recent machine shed and straw shed projects, will be handling the construction of the expansion. We’ve had great experiences working with them in the past and are looking forward to partnering with them again on this project.
If everything stays on schedule, we expect the expansion to be completed by the end of June.
We’re excited to continue sharing updates as construction progresses and look forward to seeing the finished project come together over the next few months.
