Our product line includes raw prey diet and a variety of freeze-dried treats made from 100% pheasant raised on our Wisconsin farms.
How We Prepare Freeze-Dried Treats
- Pheasant feet, necks, hearts, and livers are received from our USDA inspected facility and then frozen on separate trays, designated for freeze-drying pet treats.
- Trays are then loaded into a freeze drier. The freeze-drying process starts by cooling the product to a sub-zero temperature. The next step in the process removes moisture from the meat by vacuum sublimation. This is done using a combination of heat and vacuum pressure within the machine. The combination of high temperature and very low pressure causes the water in the product to go from solid ice to vapor. This process removes all liquid from the meat while it is still frozen; hence the name freeze-dry.
- Once the drying process is complete, the product is removed from the machine and packaged with labels and oxygen absorbers to prevent any natural moisture in the air from soaking back into the meat. The treats are now shelf-stable and ready to go to customers.
All Pure Pheasant treats make great snacks for dogs, cats, or even ferrets and can be fed as-is or rehydrated with a little bit of warm water. Freeze-dried treats are shelf-stable and do not need to be frozen or refrigerated, but should be resealed and used within 90 days of opening the package.
