MacFarlane Pheasants Hosts International Pheasant Management Seminar

Janesville, Wisconsin, June 21, 2013— MacFarlane Pheasants, the largest pheasant farm in the U.S., is hosting the 9th Bi-Annual International Pheasant Management Seminar March 2 to 5, 2014. The three-day event is the only comprehensive pheasant industry seminar in the world, and features speakers such as poultry science experts, Dr. Susan Watkins of the University of Arkansas and Dr. Robert Porter of the University of Minnesota. Seminar presenters also include experts from MacFarlane Pheasants, veterinarians, and game bird producers, with topics covering a range of subjects relevant to the pheasant industry. Attendees will also take extensive tours of MacFarlane Pheasants and meet industry members from the U.S., Canada and Europe.

Bill MacFarlane, owner of MacFarlane Pheasants states, “My thought back in 1998 was to have a one-time seminar, and here we are planning our ninth. We now realize that we have learned so much from the attendees, as they have made us rethink many of our protocols. The seminar is all about being transparent with others, who are also willing to be open. The most valuable part of the seminar, in my mind, is the give-and-take everyone has with each other.”

Since 1929 the family-owned and operated farm has been breeding and raising pheasants. International Management Seminar attendees will have the opportunity to see every aspect of the farm.

Past attendee Richard Crofts of Bettws Hall, Wales says, “The MacFarlane Seminar is an event which cannot be missed if you are involved in the game industry, wherever you are in the world. Not only do we meet like-minded people within the industry, but also the seminar involves every process involved with breeding and rearing game. The farm tour is also very worthwhile, to see how different processes are carried out, and how genetics have bred different strains of pheasants.” He adds, “To sum it up, it is an extremely well-run convention and very informative.”
