The 2010 NAGA Convention in San Antonio, TX

On February 23, 2010 in General by spope

I flew to San Antonio last week and spend three days at the NAGA (North American Gamebird Association) annual convention. The program was quite good and the hotel (The Omni) was excellent. Unfortunately only about 130 people attended. A few years back we had over 500 people attend one of our NAGA conventions.

The picture is of Tim Zindl (incoming NAGA President) handing John Metzer a plaque honoring John (as the outgoing NAGA President) for his work for the past 2 years. Both John and Tim are my friends and both of them are very capable and successful.

Since I lived in Texas for four years (during college) I really like Tex-Mex food. In Houston there was a restaurant call Pappasito’s Cantina. I checked with the front desk at the Omni asking if there happened to be a Pappasito’s in San Antonio. It was so cool to find out there was a Pappasito’s just 2 blocks from our hotel.

So both Monday night and Tuesday night I had dinner at Pappasito’s. Monday night I went with John and Sharon Metzer. On Tuesday night I went with Troy Laudenslager and his business partner Tom, and with Pat LaBoone (a long time friend who just showed up at the convention – he is a world renowned shooting instructor), and Karl Pearce (operates an up and coming preserve in northern Illinois) and Karl’s girlfriend Chris. The food and the company were fantastic.

The meetings at the convention were well attended. I just wish more people attended!! Next year the convention will be in Charleston, SC 1/17 – 1/20 and I am working on the program, with the hope we can get a lot more people to attend.
