What is James Clark’s Latest Adventure At MacFarlane Pheasants, Inc?

On June 7, 2018 in General by MacFarlane Staff

James Clark (Jim) has been a pheasant guy since childhood. His parents owned and operated Blonhaven, a pheasant farm and hunt club established in Milton in 1945. When Jim was just 26 years old, he bought the farm from his parents and operated it for 34 years, before retiring. Retirement didn’t mean losing his love of all things related to pheasants, though.

In 2013, MacFarlane Pheasants, enticed him out of retirement to travel across North America to consult with MacFarlane customers. Jim’s experience, operating a successful hunt club and pheasant enterprise of his own, make him the perfect pheasant consultant. His work includes helping customers to place orders that match their needs and helping in every aspect of caring for the pheasants after they arrive. Consultations are provided on bird health, feed practices, habitat development and any other concerns that can be imagined when working with wild birds.

Assisting our customers to care for the pheasants they purchase is an important job. MacFarlane Pheasants has been providing quality pheasants for nearly 90 years. Enhancing the pheasant experience by helping customers protect their investment is the icing on the cake! Before the mature season begins for 2018, the farm management team decided to bring Jim back to Janesville for help with a “tune-up”.

We are constantly looking for ways to improve MacFarlane Pheasants, Inc. Success in the pheasant business is about always questioning whether you might be able to do something better to improve the health and well-being of your pheasants. We asked Jim to bring his consulting skills home, to review the Janesville business from hatching the eggs to moving the birds out to their new homes 23 weeks later!

That process has already started and Jim is having a great time. He is working with both managers and crew members to assess processes and assist in any changes that they collaboratively find would be beneficial. Jim has high praise for MacFarlane employees. When he was asked what the most enjoyable part of his work is here in Janesville, he said, “Working with folks who have the skill and desire to be the best pheasant growers in the world makes me love to go to work every day.”
