Reilly Hoefker interned at MacFarlane Pheasants last summer and has returned for a second internship, following his graduation from South Dakota State University. His major was in Agricultural Sciences. Ag Business and Animal Science and Management were his minors. Then, from UW Madison he received a Poultry Science Minor with an emphasis in poultry production.
Reilly loves the topics he studied in college. It was important enough to him that he wanted to do another internship with us. Reilly told us that his main focus is game birds and MacFarlane Pheasants is a sponsor of the Midwest Poultry Consortium Center of Excellence. This is the organization that sponsors Reilly’s internship.
Reilly has done a variety of jobs on the farm during both internships. This summer he says he has done almost everything typically done on a big pheasant farm but has been able to focus on a few departments. He was on the Milton farm for one week before going to the hatchery, followed by the brooder crew. Next, Reilly will become a part of the catch crew and the farm management crew.
Reilly says his favorite part of his internship has been getting the opportunity to focus and work in fewer departments. Luckily, the departments where he has been assigned are the ones he wanted to experience this summer.
I’ll leave you with a Reilly Hoefker quote, “If you are working with something you care about, you will not be pushed to achieve. You will be pulled by the passion to achieve something great".
