First Birds Out to the Pens

On May 3, 2011 in General by spope

Our crew has been waiting for warmer weather (and for the rain to stop) to move out our first birds of the year. Even though it’s still cold (last night the low was 34 degrees) the pen crew yesterday moved out 7,000 nine week old pheasants and today they are moving out 7,000 more eight-week old pheasants. The birds that were moved out yesterday did really well overnight – though it was cold there wasn’t any wind to speak of. You can see in the attached picture that there are huts for the birds to go into and the crew spreads straw on the ground so the birds are insulated from the cold soil The forecast is for warmer days ahead – so hopefully the pen crew will get all the backed up birds moved out.
