We are entering our third season of using a new chick ordering system and they are selling like crazy this year! We started taking orders for chicks at MacFarlane Pheasants in November, but you can place your order right now at https://www.pheasant.com/.
Our current ordering system helps us to keep track of weeks when we have chicks available. Chris Theisen, our production manager, inputs all production numbers into the system. This allows customers to order chicks online or to order directly from sales staff in the office.
In the past, it was mostly the chick sales coordinator that would input the chick orders. Now, the entire sales staff can see what is still available and take orders as soon as they are received.
This new system prevents us from over-selling because up-to-date numbers are always available and the system tells us when we don’t have chicks available. Once we have a better idea of the hatching and fertility rate (usually three weeks before they hatch) we can increase or decrease production according to sales.
