It’s just been an awesome week. We came into this week expecting to ship 2 full goosenecks of birds – as that is all we had scheduled (of course in addition we have local runs with straight trucks). The weather has been magnificent, and there is big demand in South Dakota for birds and we ended up shipping 5 full goosenecks of birds. We already have four goosenecks filled for next week and have 2 more goosenecks that for now are just tentative, but it’s very likely they will go too. Wow – what a difference from a year ago. Last year at this time – everything just stopped.
I just hope for a few more weeks of good weather out in South Dakota – nothing will put an end to the pheasant season more quickly than a 2 foot snowfall.
I posted about a week ago about really worrying about moving out the last 2 barns of birds – the crews got them all moved out and then the weather just cooperated totally. Today it’s nearly 60 degrees here – and it’s November 6th!!! So the last 2 hatches are out basically without incident (losses) and the staff is happy about that. The crews put so much time and effort into keeping the birds alive and it can be so depressing to move out birds, have the weather turn nasty and end up losing birds. This dry, warm stretch of weather is so appreciated!
