Bright and Early

The days are rapidly getting longer and yet there doesn’t seem to be enough time to get everything done. Many of our employees are starting at or before the crack of dawn. Today we had 15 employees start their day with us at 5:00 am. We had a big day – we wanted to vaccinate 3500+ pheasants as quickly as possible. The goal was to finish the job by 12 noon. I saw a few of the employees that were supposed to be on that crew at around 9:30 am – so I called Ben Lawton and asked “what’s up”. He reported that the crew had finished the job by 9:00 am. That is just incredible. How did it happen that they got done so quickly? First of all, there was great planning – Brian Check our breeder manager set up everything on Wednesday so this morning the crews could go right to work. Another factor was that everyone was clear what the job was, and how the job was going to get done. A reasonable goal was set to accomplish the task – and the employees were motivated to meet or beat the goal. I continue to be so impressed with the work ethic of our staff and the commitment they continually show to me and to our farm.
