Are All Birds Created Equal?

On January 27, 2014 in General by spope

Rarely, if ever, do you hear, “Oh wow! You should come take a look at this two point buck I shot!” It just doesn’t happen. When you are hunting, you want to take down the hardiest animal either to hang on your wall or to provide you and your family with excellent meat. Pheasant hunting is not any different.

In the second you have to aim your gun to the sky and pick out your target, your eyes are instinctively drawn to the large, brightly colored birds. This is a sign of a healthy, quality pheasant. Which raises the question, how does one produce high quality hunting pheasants?

For starters, the Chinese Ringneck pheasant is the most common breed of pheasant for hunting. This bird has earned a respected reputation due to its ability to acclimate easily into the wild, as well as for its excellent flying skills. We at MacFarlane Farms have been breeding the Ringneck pheasant to sell to hunt clubs since 1928 and know what it takes to produce high quality birds.

Our brooder barns are equipped with state-of-the-art equipment that ensures our pheasants receive nothing but the most advanced care from day one. The birds are given necessary electrolytes and vitamins from day one, and are kept in a facility that was created to mimic a normal birth environment. However, in this environment, optimum water PH levels are monitored and maintained, and thermostat levels are perfected in order to create the ideal setting for raising high quality pheasants.

It takes years of experience to learn what it takes to produce the kind of pheasant you can be proud to put your name on, and we have done just that. We have grown MacFarlane Pheasants into the largest Pheasant Farm in the United States, and we take pride in what we do. For a virtual tour of our barns, visit our website at www.pheasant.com.
